Of stylised geometric design, composed of a central vein of colour composed of square-, torpedo-, oval-,pear- and emerald-cut sapphires, embellished to either side with an open-work design set with circular- and baguette-cut diamonds, circa 1930, signed Cartier London and numbered. Length 3.4cm, width 2.8cm. Weight 22 grams
Accompanied by a certificate from GCS stating that the oval-shaped sapphire weighing approximately 1.70 carats is of Burmese origin and the sapphire weighing approximately 3.50cts is of Kashmir origin.
Note: Many variations of this stylised shield design were devised by Cartier during the late 1920s and 1930s - especially by Cartier London- and the geometric scrolling motifs you can see to each side are one of Cartier’s most iconic of the Art Deco period in general.
