Perfectly-formed uniformly-coloured emerald crystals are (as you might imagine in a natural occurrence) incredibly rare and coveted - especially in larger sizes.
They are rather surreal things to encounter in the first place, like something from a sci-fi film found growing on a distant planet…
It is therefore rather delicious to see them left in their natural form and simply arranged together to create an eye boggling carpet of colour.. whose contours flashing in the light are the only trace of their boundaries.
It makes for a wholly unusual and wholly beguiling jewel - as much today as it would have done nearly 100 years ago.
